My friend Alesha graduated from Rice in spring of 2000. I first met her in a theater production we did together, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. After she graduated, we still saw each other every once in a while. One night at the beginning of the new school year, in the fall of 2000, we attended some event on campus together, and afterwards I suggested to her that she stay involved with theater by directing a play at Rice. It's pretty common for a Rice alum who was active in theater to do that. She thought it sounded like a good idea. Little did either of us know what we were getting into.
