The play we ended up doing was Free Will and Wanton Lust by Nicky Silver. I really don't have the space to go into the plot of the play, but, for the curious, I will mention that it is an unconventional play about a dysfunctional family. Anyway, one of the things Alesha and I strove to do was to attract interest from Houstonians outside of Rice. The Rice theatre community at the time was quite insular, in our opinion, and we wanted to try to open it up to the vibrant theater world of Houston outside of campus. To that end, we assembled a press kit for the play which was sent to all of the newspapers in Houston that covered theater. Included with the press kit were free passes for the show.
