In social interactions, especially among people I don't know well, I would describe myself as shy and quiet. I would definitely not say I am a people person. But for some reason, I've always been very successful as a teacher and very well-liked by my students. It's something I truly enjoy doing. One of the classes I taught at Rice was a homework tutorial for an introductory physics class. In this tutorial, students came in and worked on their homework problems in groups of 3 or 4, and if they had questions, they asked me. At the end of the first year that I taught the tutorial, my students gave me this card.
